Soft Buttery Breadsticks (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Dough

01 - 1 1/4 cups of warm water
02 - 2 tablespoons butter, softened
03 - 1 1/2 teaspoons table salt
04 - 4 1/4 cups plain flour
05 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
06 - 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast, active dry

→ Topping

07 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
08 - 3 tablespoons butter, melted
09 - 1/2 teaspoon oregano
10 - 1/2 teaspoon table salt

# Instructions:

01 - Stir yeast into 1/4 cup warm water in a small dish. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly on top.
02 - Mix butter, sugar, salt, and 4 cups flour together in a large mixing bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture and the rest of the water. Blend until a sticky dough forms.
03 - Sprinkle in another 1/4 cup of flour and knead until the dough is smooth and soft to touch.
04 - Cut the dough in half and roll each half into a 12-inch log. Slice each log into eight equal parts, then shape those into breadsticks roughly 7 inches long.
05 - Put the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment, leaving a bit of space between them. Cover loosely and let rise in a cozy spot for 45 minutes.
06 - Heat your oven to 400°F. Coat the breadsticks with half of the butter topping before baking.
07 - Place the tray in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they have a light golden color.
08 - Take them out of the oven and brush them with the leftover butter topping mixture while still warm.

# Notes:

01 - Yields 16 breadsticks, just right for a group meal. You can cut the recipe in half if serving fewer people.
02 - If you're in a rush, frozen bread dough works great. Shape one loaf into 8 sticks, or try dinner rolls for smaller breadsticks.
