01 -
Stir yeast into 1/4 cup warm water in a small dish. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly on top.
02 -
Mix butter, sugar, salt, and 4 cups flour together in a large mixing bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture and the rest of the water. Blend until a sticky dough forms.
03 -
Sprinkle in another 1/4 cup of flour and knead until the dough is smooth and soft to touch.
04 -
Cut the dough in half and roll each half into a 12-inch log. Slice each log into eight equal parts, then shape those into breadsticks roughly 7 inches long.
05 -
Put the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment, leaving a bit of space between them. Cover loosely and let rise in a cozy spot for 45 minutes.
06 -
Heat your oven to 400°F. Coat the breadsticks with half of the butter topping before baking.
07 -
Place the tray in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they have a light golden color.
08 -
Take them out of the oven and brush them with the leftover butter topping mixture while still warm.
